Licensed Professional Counselor
Having more than 30 years’ experience in counseling gives me a unique advantage to deliver quality and personalized care to my clients. My goal as a therapist is to meet you where you are, not make you fit into a prescribed treatment plan. To me, therapy is about safety, collaborative problem solving, and change.
After obtaining my bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, I attended Georgia State University and received a master’s degree in Community Counseling.
After several years of supervised work in the field, I became fully licensed as an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). I went on for more training and supervision and now have the RPT (Registered Play Therapy) certificate through the Association of Play Therapy. Currently, I am an active member in the Georgia Association of Licensed Professional Counselors and the Georgia Association for Play Therapy.
I have been serving clients in Atlanta for over thirty years. In addition to my years in private practice, I have had the following job experiences:
Beginning in 1989, I worked at the Gwinnett Children’s shelter. I worked as a staff counselor with children and adolescents who were residing there. I created and implemented the Positive Parenting Program. In this program, I taught parenting classes and provided low-cost counseling to adults and families.
While at Henry County Mental Health Center, I maintained a caseload of adult individual clients. There, I saw families and couples as well.
My work at Beyond Words Center for Social Skills Therapy helped me to develop strong skills in group and individual therapy for children, teens and young adults. I created and implemented the Young Adult Program at this center. I worked closely with parents so they could help their children use the skills learned in group in their social lives and in school.
I went on to help children develop and improve upon social skills while working for Amit, a program that served special needs students in mainstream classes and in self-contained classrooms.
For many years I was the school counselor at Springmont, formerly First Montessori of Atlanta in Sandy Springs. There I worked with elementary and middle school students. I provided classroom guidance lessons, group therapy and saw students individually. Collaborating with teachers and parents to ensure the social and emotional well being of the students was an important part of that job.
For more than 17 years I have been in private practice in Dunwoody, where I continue to enjoy seeing a wide variety of clients.
